Winemakers: Mark Hunter

Sanguine Estate is a 2022 Halliday Wine Companion “Red Named” winery which took the family 10 years to achieve and places Sanguine Estate in the top 12% of wineries in Australia. The Sanguine Estate vineyard was established by the Hunter Family in 1996 and is located on the famous 510-million-year-old Cambrian earth belt in Heathcote, Central Victoria.

The family’s desire to produce great wine flows through every glass as they combine philosophies of low yielding, hand nurtured and harvested vines, small batch processing and minimalist intervention. The purity and integrity of Mark Hunter’s wine making techniques are enhanced by the modern gravity fed winery located on the Estate. Shiraz is Sanguine Estate’s domain and with 69 acres under vine (approx 77% Shiraz) each of their Shiraz labels reflects both a part of their family story and of the Estate vineyard thus far: from Inception to the Progeny and onto the Great grandfather, Pietro D’Orsa.
